Oh, sure, you may know what the IAJGS conference is, and that it’s coming up this July 11-16, and that it’s going to be held in downtown Los Angeles at the awesome new J.W. Marriott at LA Live. After all, you’ve managed to find and read this blog! Perhaps you’ve even subscribed to our newsletter. But what about all the people out there who could potentially enjoy this conference, if only they knew about its existence, or even about genealogy in general?

LA2010 Registration is now live!
The Jewish Genealogical Society of Los Angeles looks forward to welcoming you to Los Angeles from July 11 – 16 for an extraordinary series of presentations by renowned scholars, archivists and research specialists from around the world. We’ll also offer enlightening films, methodology workshops, evening musical and dramatic performances, and opportunities to network and schmooze with a friendly, global community of Jewish genealogists.

Call for Papers Extended, and Conference Registration Delayed
Breaking News! Because of a flurry of last-minute submissions, we are going to be extending the Call for Papers for the 2010 IAJGS conference until this Wednesday, January 20th at midnight. And because of technical delays, we pushing back the date that Conference Registration begins, also changed to Wednesday, January 20th. So if you’ve been procrastinating on submitting a talk for our conference, you have just a few more days to get your materials in. And we hope to see you all back on this website on Wednesday so you can start registering for our exciting program!

(Eastern European) Mapping Madness…at the IAJGS Conference
Professional genealogist and map expert Brian J. Lenius, co-founder of the East European Genealogical Society (EEGS) will speak at the 30th IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy. Brian is the author of “The Genealogical Gazetteer of Galicia,” and he has been instrumental in working on Gesher Galicia’s Cadastral Map and Landowner Records project, which is committed to expanding the availability of land records and maps as adjuncts to vital records’ research.

Conference program planning is now in full swing, with less than ten days left to submit your abstract or presentation proposal. The due date is January 15th so fine-tune your ideas and get ready to submit before the deadline. “Conference Firsts” from IAJGS 2010 Conference Central
In the weeks following the launch of the 2010 IAJGS Conference website your co-chairs have been actively working on programs and plans for this July event. The Call for Papers begins on November 15th, but we’ve already been recruiting key speakers and planning programs “firsts.”
