Go west, genealogists!

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Los Angeles (JGSLA) will host the 30th International Conference on Jewish Genealogy from July 11-16, 2010, at the new JW Marriott hotel at L.A. Live, the unique entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles.

The 879-room hotel opens February 2010, offering WiFi in all rooms and major amenities, including a rooftop outdoor pool, spa and fitness center. LA2010, one of the first major events at L.A. LIVE, will provide a once-in-a-lifetime genealogical journey of discovery.

Join us as we explore a diverse international Jewish community that has welcomed tourists, settlers, pioneers and immigrants for nearly 250 years. From Spanish explorers, Converso settlers, Hollywood pioneers, Holocaust refugees to the largest Iranian Jewish community outside the Middle East, everyone from everywhere is part of the scene, sharing experiences and history.

There will be a special focus on pioneer Jews and those who later created the arts and entertainment industry. A major Sephardic program is planned to complement Eastern European research, while an onsite Jewish genealogical library will feature translators, Yizkor books, LDS microfilms and more. Tracks on Yiddish theatre, klezmer music and vaudeville will also be offered. Innovative programs for beginners through advanced researchers will assist every attendee. For the first time, get-started tracks will be offered for both the Converso/Bnai Anousim and Persian Jewish communities, including community-specific resources, speakers, DNA/genetics and more.

The annual film festival will return to its star-studded Hollywood roots. Holocaust research resources include the Museum of Tolerance and the Shoah Foundation. Visit the city’s old Jewish neighborhoods with tours of Boyle Heights and the Breed St. Shul. The L.A. Central Library, the Disney Concert Hall and the Grammy Museum are all nearby.
